So mechanic shops are businesses that exist for profit just like the rest of the businesses in corporate America, so they need to make money to survive or to keep the business going. If you have shopped around for the same job probably you got different prices because every mechanic has various expense items that need to factor in the price.
Those expenses can vary facility/shop rent, location, mechanics, supplies, mechanic skill level, tools used to diagnose the problem and many more.
Many of those mechanics have Google listings that are equipped with the review system managed by Google itself so this could be a good stating point in picking up a mechanic.
Are mechanics honest or trusted? Almost no such thing but if you find one that you trust keep them because you will not find many of them.
